Actually, John is supposed get all his immunizations again. The cytoxan treatment wiped out the protection he gained over his lifetime. He basically has a virgin immune system. But your immune system needs to be functioning for while before you get them because if it's too soon, they won't work. Typicallyt, he should have gotten them in June, however, his recovery has been much slower than expected and his dr felt he was still too immune compromised to do it. It's just like when people get vaccinated for the flu, the older you are the less effective it is because typically, as we age, our immune systems are not what they used to be. I'm not too worried. I doubt if he'll come in contact with polio or small pox anytime soon. Yes, we're of the age when they were giving small pox shots. The other would be tetnus/diptheria. But you know, we never really kept up getting any of the booster shots.
