Hi Laura, Before you receive a transfusion of Rbc's they will do a cross. This is to check for antigens that are present, so they will always pick up if you have developed them. That is why they always do this procedure before every transfusion, because you can suddenly develop them. In Canada the bag of blood lists the antigens present. I had over 200 transfusions of blood and platelets and luckily never developed any.
