Thanks so much for this forum! I want to educate myself on this disease so I can provide support to a close friend who is an youthful 76 y.o. Can you tell me if the condition called "myelodisplasia" is the same as AA? What we are talking about here is the inability to produce/sustain normal levels of red blood cells? There is a very high white count - is this the body producing too many white cells or is it a case of the red count being too low? She is relating to results which put her at a count of "400" 6 mos ago, but now they are at "800". Her doc told her that if her count (I assume this is white cells) reaches 1000 she will need treatment. She has been symptom free for over ten years, but lately has had weight loss and fatigue. I would appreciate receiving advice on where I can educate myself further on this condition and will continue to check your postings and will share what I have learned. THANK YOU!!
