Doctors at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Md are conducting very promising research on the treatment of AA for patients that do not have bone marrow matches or would be lousy candidates for transplants. They have found out that if you knock out the AA patient's bone marrow with high-dose cytoxan, it will grow back NORMALLY. (This is just for AA, not other related diseases). 7 of 10 in the original study were treated successfully, and I was #44 of the follow-up study. My marrow cells are back, and are normal. The average time to cure is 3 years right now. They do use GSF at the beginning just to give the white cells a boost, but I had no treatments after that, other than the usually antibiotics to ward off infection while the counts are low. 1 1/2 years after treatment, my Hgb is 10-11, WBC is 3.5, and Platelets are 53k. All counts are rising, slowly. They have had NO relapses. I am 42.
